Pfandbrief make good start to year, sparks revival hopes - VDP's Rasche
Signs are growing of some revival of the German Pfandbrief covered bond market. Some e8bn in volume were issued in January, about half each mortgage- and public sector-backed, while the first week of February, with sales volume of e3.6bn, continued the trend, reported the German Pfandbrief (VDP) association recently. VDP President Henning Rasche said: "Demand for German Pfandbrief is developing satisfactorily despite the wave of government-guaranteed bank bond issues. Our member institutions expect the positive trend of recent weeks to endure during the year - provided the banking industry is stabilised further and investor confidence continues to strengthen."
