Retail trend toward German city centres to continue - GfK
In the five years since 2003, retail turnover in Germany's largest city centres has grown by some 8.8% while retail floor space is up over 26%, according to GfK GeoMarketing. The average across all cities is somewhat lower, but the trend toward centralisation in the centres is continuing, reversing a decline since 1992. GfK's Olaf Petersen told a conference that German city centre locations generally offer favourable retail growth opportunities. To ensure sustainability, retailers should develop a unified location concept, while investors should carry out detailed site appraisals.
