New European shopping centre openings to fall until 2011 - Cushman & Wakefield
Next year will see the lowest level of European shopping centre development for five years, with only 7m sq.m. of new space due to open, says realtor Cushman & Wakefield. The full impact of the recession is likely to be most felt in 2011 however, when only 5m sq.m. of space will open across Europe, the lowest since 2003. The largest amount of new space was added in the first six months in Russia. Turkey and Russia still top the league table of malls in the pipeline to end-2010, while in the west, France has the largest pipeline, followed UK, Spain and Romania.
