Real estate equities bear market is over, opportunities coming, says Cohen & Steers
The two-year bear market in real estate stocks has run its course and a fundamental recovery is already under way in Asia, to be followed by the US next year and Europe in 2011, says global real estate securities specialist Cohen & Steers. "In the longer term we believe real estate values will settle at higher levels than are generally expected by the market, as we do not see capitalisation rates (yields) spiking as high as many people anticipate," Global portfolio manager Scott Crowe said at the EPRA conference earlier this month.
