EU house prices rise fractional 0.3% last year
European Union-wide house prices rose by a fractional 0.3% last year on aggregate, well down from 7.0% growth in 2007, according to new data released by the Brussels-based European Mortgage Federation. The latest version of Hypostat, the EMF's annual statistical handbook on mortgage markets, showed also that EU residential property lending fell in 2008 for the first time on record - by 1.2% over 2007, accounting for 49.8% of EU GDP, down from 51.2%.
